Procedure

Register your interest to receive updates on the application process and information sessions.

Step 1: Check your eligibility

You can check your eligibility here.

Step 2: Talk to your parents

We can only accept applications which are supported by your parents or guardians. Tell them about the UWC movement and show them this website so that they can support you throughout the process.

Step 3: Choose your Referees

Three references are required, one academic reference and two general references. The academic reference should be completed by a teacher, and the general references should be completed by someone who has worked with you in a non-academic setting (such as a scouting/guiding leader, a supervisor in extra-curricular activities, or someone you have volunteered for). All referees should be able to speak of your abilities and interests.

Step 4: Get your school reports

We require both mid-year and end-of-year school reports.

Step 5: Submit your Application Form

The first stage of applying for a UWC scholarship is a written application. This application provides the selection committee with a brief overview of the student, their current interests and activities. This year’s application requires short written responses and short videos.

  1. Create an account (or sign in if you have an existing account) via the "Apply Now" link on the left.

  2. Enter your contact information and click "Register".

  3. Confirm your registration via the email link.

  4. Under the heading "Your Tasks" you will see an item, "Applicant Information". Click on the "Start" button.

  5. Provide your personal details and the system will check your eligibility to apply. Once complete, click "Save & Exit".

  6. Under the heading "Your Applications", click on the button, "View Applications".

  7. If eligible, you will see an item, "UWC Australia". Click the "Apply Now" button to start your submission.

  8. Once all the components of the application are complete, click on the "Submit Application" button.

All application forms are carefully read by a team of trained reviewers - they are all familiar with the UWC movement and are looking for candidates with the potential to thrive in the unique environment of a United World College.

Step 6: Interviews

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in possible group activities and sit a formal interview with the selection panel. Interviews will take place in capital cities on either the Saturday or Sunday of the 3rd weekend of February.

Applicants must make sure they keep both of these dates available to attend an interview. You will be notified which day is Interview Day as soon as possible. Other arrangements may be possible for applicants from remote areas.

Applicants must have a parent or guardian present on Interview Day.

Step 7: Financial Assessment

Applicants who are successful after the interview stage will be asked to complete extensive and detailed financial assessment forms to allow the UWC International Office to make a needs-based assessment.

Financial information does not affect the merit-based ranking of candidates.

Step 8: Allocation of Places and Scholarships

Following the final shortlist from each State and Territory via the State selection committees, the candidates are ranked nationally, and a formal offer process begins between the national committee and the candidates.

The selections team will allocate all successful applicants to colleges. This will be decided based upon your preferences, maturity, interests, and various other factors.

Scholarships are awarded based on demonstrated financial need. The amount of funding support available will always be specified at the same time as a place is offered.

Once we have allocated all the places, we will let you know whether you were successful and if so, which college place you have been offered.

Step 9: School and College Notification

Once a candidate and family have completed a formal acceptance of the position offered by UWC Australia, the candidate is nominated to the relevant college. Nominations to colleges are required by the end of March. The college will then notify the candidate of their acceptance. This may take some weeks to process.
